Dome- and pancake-shaped clouds were seen across New Hampshire skies Thursday morning.
These clouds are known as lenticular clouds or lens clouds.
They're not uncommon at higher elevations. These clouds typically form in the colder months near mountains and other tall obstacles when air is forced up and over, creating a wave.
As the air rises, it cools in the higher altitudes and creates droplets that form clouds that almost look like a pancake or UFO.
Lenticular clouds are not typically seen in southern New Hampshire.
